Maternity Salad

There is a restaurant in Studio City called Caioti Pizza Cafe.  On their menu, they have something called the The "THE" Salad, also known as the Maternity Salad.  Apparently, pregnant women flock there everyday to eat this famous dish that is supposed to induce labor.  The ingredients are basic: romaine, watercress, gorgonzola, walnuts AND their super secret special dressing that you can purchase online.  It's the dressing that apparently does the trick.  They claim it's made from natural ingredients, but if it truly does "work" I'm going to guess it's either laced with castor oil or pitocin.

And I'm going to eat it.  Tomorrow.  On the radio.

On AMP Radio, and if you care to listen, click that link tomorrow morning around 8:05am PST and you can check out the live stream.

Let's get this baby out of here, friends.  All together now.

Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Chip and Pretzel Cookies

Salty + Sweet.  Everyone is doing it.

I saw these on Pinterest and nearly fell off my rocker.  No really, I was in a rocking chair, because I'm very pregnant and that's what I do.  Rock.  Anyway, I'm a big fan of this candy bar, and these cookies have all of the same tasty elements: chocolate, peanut butter and pretzels.  Salty + Sweet.  I adapted them slightly by using a different cookie dough base, similar to these, because I wanted a really chewy cookie to contrast the crisp pretzels.

OMG as the tweens say to each other on cellular phones.  These are good.

*These make a smaller batch of cookies, double if you're baking for a crowd.

Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Chip and Pretzel Cookies
(Makes 18)

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
3/4 cup light brown sugar
1 large egg
3/4 tsp vanilla
1 tsp milk
3/4 cup bread flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup chocolate chips
3/4 cup peanut butter chips
3/4 cup crushed pretzels
Sea salt for sprinkling on top

Preheat oven to 375.  In a bowl, beat together melted, cooled butter with brown sugar until creamy.  Add egg, vanilla and milk and combine.  In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda and salt.  Slowly add dry ingredients to wet and beat until just combined.  Stir in chocolate chips, peanut butter chips and pretzels.  Place by rounded spoonful on parchment-lined baking sheets, and sprinkle top with sea salt. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges.
